When Should You Redesign Your Website?

Not sure if your website needs an update? Five signs it is overdue: it looks outdated, it fails on mobile, it gets no leads, it is slow or glitchy, or you outgrew it.

When Should You Redesign Your Website?

Article

If you're not sure if your website needs an update, you're not alone.

A lot of Orlando business owners wait way too long to redesign because they aren't sure what to look for. So they wait for a clear signal that never really comes. There isn't one signal. There are five checks you can run today against any website.

Check 1: It looks outdated

If your site still looks the same as it did five years ago, chances are it feels old to your customers too. Styles change, and so do expectations. The site you were proud of at launch is quietly being compared to every modern site your customer visited this week, and it doesn't get graded on a curve.

Run the screenshot test. Screenshot your homepage and a top competitor's, names covered, side by side. If yours is the one that looks older, your customers are reaching the same conclusion, faster.

Check 2: It's hard to use on mobile

If things are hard to click or read on a phone, people will leave. Over half your visitors are probably browsing from their phones. So run the check where it counts. Pull your site up on your phone, off your office wifi, and try to do the one thing you want customers to do. If you have to pinch and zoom to manage it, so do they, and most of them won't bother.

Check 3: You aren't getting leads or sales

If traffic is decent but nobody's filling out your form or clicking buy, your site might not be doing its job. Traffic without action is a design problem until proven otherwise. A site can be pretty and still be broken as a sales tool. That's the deeper problem in website not converting.

Do the form test while you're at it. Fill out your own contact form, on your phone, start to finish. Count the fields. Count the steps. If it annoys you, imagine a stranger with three other tabs open.

Check 4: It's slow or glitchy

Slow loading times, broken links, and weird formatting also tell customers, we aren't keeping up. None of these feels fatal on its own. Together they read as a business that stopped paying attention, and customers price that in before they ever call you.

Check 5: You've outgrown it

Maybe you've added services, grown your team, or expanded across Orlando. If your site doesn't reflect that growth, it's time to catch up. Your website should grow with your business. An outgrown site undersells you to exactly the bigger, better clients the growth was supposed to attract, because it still describes the smaller company you used to be.

Check the services page against what you actually sell today. If your best current offer isn't on it, your site is advertising the old business and hiding the new one.

So, do you need a website redesign?

Count your fails. One fail is a fix, not a redesign. Something specific to repair this month.

Three or more, and you aren't looking at a repair list anymore. You're looking at a site that's costing you a little bit every week, in visitors who leave and never tell you why. That's when the redesign conversation starts.

And here's the part owners miss: the cost of waiting isn't zero. It's just spread out, a few lost visitors at a time, so it never shows up as a line item.
